The Pests are Coming

There have been quite a few news accounts over the last few weeks talking about bugs. Specifically, a couple of different insects; bed bugs and stink bugs.

Both types of bugs are more of the irritant than an actual threat to safety and health but as irritants go, they are big ones. Bed bugs had seemed to vanish for a number of decades due to pesticides such as DDT but due to the negative effects regarding DDT about the environment, it was banned and now the bed bugs have returned.

Stink bugs really are a relatively new sensation in the United States yet have rapidly jumped to be able to near the surface of the irritant checklist. Stink bugs get their title from the fragrance they release when vulnerable. They also discharge the fragrance when wiped out.

With the weather turning cooler, the bed bugs and stink bugs are getting into homes. How do they enter? Just via even the littlest crevices around windows or perhaps attics or even through garages. Garages attached to the home have got all sorts of crevices that allow bugs to pass through, which makes it more crucial than at any time to keep the garage door in good repair. Any garage door that is dropping a little away from plumb ought to be repaired the moment it can because once pests learn a route into the house, they follow it and it is difficult to stop.

News articles also talk about the actual specialized nature of the bug control efforts needed to eradicate the bugs when they've gotten into the home. Bed bugs are not vulnerable to the standard bug control efforts and just the sheer numbers of bed bugs and stink bugs means the expense of eradication increases.

So getting the home as air tight as possible, blocking the pests from getting inside is one of or even the most effective means of dealing with them. It's actually a good idea to have at least an annual inspection of the home both inside and in the market to determine if there are any little holes that will enable the pests to enter. The actual annual assessment should probably include a review of the premises by the local pesticide business (reputable of course) but it is the actual vigilance with the homeowner this is the best defense against bugs of all kinds. Keeping your home clean and within good repair, weather proofing the house windows and attic and garage door are just great places to start.

Oh, and not taking the baseball bat to the garage door just because a football or baseball group gets outdone also helps.
